The Chinese don’t say “hello” when they meet each other??
When Chinese people meet,various amenities and civilities are exchanged,for instance:”How are you? Long time no see. How are you doing lately?” “How is your work? Have you been busy?” “Where are you going?” and etc.
The other party may give a truthful and factual answer or just a brief answer like “Passable”, “Quite well”, “Not very busy” “I am out for something”.
These questions indicate that the person asking you is concerned about you or interested in you. So please do not feel strange or upset since they are just amenities.
