The Chinese script is different from European scripts in that it has no alphabet. Instead, it uses tens of thousands of individual characters,each corresponding to a syllable with a distinct meaning. The largest print dictionary in China contains over 80,000characters ! Suffice to say, menmorizing characters is a hard task for any person, especially when compared with the 26 letter alphabet used in English.
